05/10/2007- The bone is determined to be a 200 year old bison bone from a six to eight month old bison calf. This prompted a discussion on whether there were ever bison in western Colorado. Clifford Duncan explains that his people would travel to the plains to hunt bison and bring back the meat, hides and bones. The cottonwood tree was a sacred ceremonial tree for the Ute people who performed a ceremony for the success of the hunt.
